Alerts

The following are details of media issues, or alerts, as they call them.

Since the Polish Media Issues group started in 2004 they have tried to play their part alongside the Polish government, embassy and consulates, Polish organization such as the Federation of Poles in Great Britain and Polish American Congress and the various action groups (e.g. Poland Speaks Out, Polonia Roars and StopJack) in delaing with bad media coverage of Poles and Poland.

They hope by putting this information on the web we can encourage more members of the Polonia to take up the fight.

Recent Alerts

Cherwell - Polish Ghetto city of Lodz

Status: Closed. The paper originally said “Polish Ghetto city of Lodz”.  The paper immediately upon being informed corrected the article to say “Lodz ghetto in occupied Poland”.  In their reply they said “Thank you for alerting my attention to this. I have changed the article accordingly in order to reflect the fact that I refer only to situation and not to responsibility or ownership.”

Telegraph – the Polish death camp

Status: Closed. The printed version was fine but the on-line version talked about Ida Grinspan who was deported from France to death camps in occupied Poland as Polish death camp.  The paper promptly changed the on-line to Nazi death camp in German-occupied Poland.

Echo - Polish death camp

Status: Closed. Bergen-Belsen which was a German camp in Germany was said to be a Polish death camp.  The media and author replied it was a mistake and corrected it promptly.
